Smoky Mountain National Park 75th
Anniversary
In 2009, Smoky Mountain National Park celebrated its 75th
Anniversary in a series of events that highlighted its landmarks and its
people.
The Rededication of the park on this 75th Anniversary,
September 9, brought a wide spectrum of dignitaries including Secretary of
the Interior Ken Salazar, Governors
of Tennessee and North Carolina, Dolly Parton, Official Anniversary
Ambassador, and the men of the Civilian Conservation Corps.
Approximately 4000 CCC men served in the Smoky Mountains
and 10 were in attendance to help celebrate.
Each received a commemorative coin with a photo of Present
Roosevelt during his speech at the original dedication of the park.
Among those members attending were
Clarence Allison, Charles Fletcher, Don McClure, Walter Minton and
Fuller Pierce, Don Shoulders, and Bill Young.
